Methods to troubleshoot the Internal Error 2343

The Internal Error 2343 strikes onto the screen after a migration from Lotus Notes to Outlook Office 2000 (NSF to PST). The error message flashes as “Internal Error 2343, contact the support team.” Error 2343 is the result of improper un-installation of Lotus Notes where some of its attributes are not consistent with Outlook Office 2000. These are some methods to rectify the Internal Error 2343.

1. Rename Notes.ini
The Windows 95, 98, Millennium Edition, NT 4.0, 2000, 2000 Professional users can avoid this error by renaming the Notes.ini file. The file resides at in %systemroot%\system or %systemroot%\system32 where %systemroot%\ is the path where system is installed. Proceed to the next method if this method has not rectified the error.

2. Troubleshoot the error with Internal Error 2343 Utility
Internal Error 2343 Utility is a Microsoft based free utility. It is available at Microsoft’s support Website. A user can download & run this tool for rectifying the error.

3. Eradicate the Lotus Notes entries in Win.ini file.
Before deleting the Lotus Notes entries create a backup of Win.ini file stored in Windows folder. Then run the Win.ini command from start. Track & remove these entries from there: nsf=c:\notes\Notes.exe ^.nsf, ns3=c:\notes\Notes.exe ^.ns3, nsg=c:\notes\Notes.exe ^.nsg
nsh=c:\notes\Notes.exe ^.nsh, ns2=c:\notes\Notes.exe ^.ns2, ntf=c:\notes\Notes.exe ^.ntf.
Eradicate the Win.ini file from Registry Editor. Delete these files from the Win.ini file from the LotusMail section: Application=Notes, Program=c:\notes\Notes.exe NoDialogs. Now save the changes and Exit the program.
Also remove the Lotus Notes Keys from the registry. For this Close all other programs and Run regedit. Search for the following keys in Registry Editor: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.nsf. Repeat this step for finding these keys

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.ntf
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.nsg
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.ns3
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.ns2
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.ndl

Navigate the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SOFTWARE\ Classes Key for deleting.nsf and subkeys. Repeat the step for deleting the .nsh, .ntf, .nsg, .ns3, .ns2, .ndl keys. Now close the Registry Editor.

4. Steps to Troubleshoot the Error 2343 if Lotus Notes is installed
Find the Lotus Notes entries in the Win.ini file from the backup copy. Run the Win.ini. command and find these extensions for deleting them:

nsf=c:\notes\Notes.exe ^.nsf
ns3=c:\notes\Notes.exe ^.ns3
nsg=c:\notes\Notes.exe ^.nsg
nsh=c:\notes\Notes.exe ^.nsh
ns2=c:\notes\Notes.exe ^.ns2
ntf=c:\notes\Notes.exe ^.ntf
Delete the Lotus Notes entry from Registry Editor.

If the Internal Error 2343 has not been rectified then you can still salvage the files with Kernel for Notes to Outlook (NSF to PST). It provides you access to all the corrupt Lotus Notes data like emails, contacts, calendar items, etc.
