The world and its needs are rapidly changing. Today people look for specific contents and result oriented products. If one is bothered with only email and calendaring service, then there is no point in paying extra for other services. Yes, I am talking about emails clients and choosing the one that suits your business needs has become an important question recently. Clearly, there is comparison among only two major contenders, IBM Lotus Domino and Microsoft Exchange. Before choosing one or planning to migrate from one of them to another, you must be interested in researching and determining how the two leading messaging server offerings compare.

Primarily both are excellent messaging service providers and both has its own pros and cons. Supporting Lotus Notes, it is a favorite of many since it gives a lot more than mere messaging, calendaring and organizing contacts. Instant messaging, IBM Web Sphere Portal, Tivoli Directory Integrator, Web sphere Application Server are few complementary services that IBM Lotus Domino customers can avail for while using Lotus Notes. You can manage databases with Notes and get management and replication capabilities. Also, upgrading to a newer version is easier without involving much cost.

Microsoft outlook is becoming the choice of the mass. People migrate from service to another in every industry, in the messaging domain; Outlook seems to be the winner. Outlook seems to be the favorite as it provides a better solution than competitors for a wide range of messaging, collaboration, and other business computing needs. It is extremely user friendly and has an interactive GUI. You need no training or technical expertise to master Outlook skills. Notes on the other hand, has clunky interface, complicated menus, and just can’t do certain things. Notes also has a high maintenance cost but again offers more features. Therefore, if you are looking for just messaging and day to day communication service, MS Outlook is the perfect choice.

Existing Lotus Notes users can try Kernel for NSF to PST if you wish to migrate to MS Outlook. It is a complete solution for migration process. It converts all existing Notes NSF files into Outlook PST files. It also converts the server side data. It migrates Domino server user mailboxes to new account in Exchange Server or as .PST file. The converted data can be viewed in Text or RTF format. A free trial version of this convert NSF to PST tool is available to check the software capabilities but it limits you to convert only one NSF file and save first ten items of every folder existing in the .nsf file. It supports version 8.5, 8.0, 7.0, 6.5, 6.0 and 5.0 of Lotus Notes and Lotus Domino Server. Along with, it supports MS Outlook 97 and above, and every version of MS Exchange Server.

The Internal Error 2343 strikes onto the screen after a migration from Lotus Notes to Outlook Office 2000 (NSF to PST). The error message flashes as “Internal Error 2343, contact the support team.” Error 2343 is the result of improper un-installation of Lotus Notes where some of its attributes are not consistent with Outlook Office 2000. These are some methods to rectify the Internal Error 2343.

1. Rename Notes.ini
The Windows 95, 98, Millennium Edition, NT 4.0, 2000, 2000 Professional users can avoid this error by renaming the Notes.ini file. The file resides at in %systemroot%\system or %systemroot%\system32 where %systemroot%\ is the path where system is installed. Proceed to the next method if this method has not rectified the error.

2. Troubleshoot the error with Internal Error 2343 Utility
Internal Error 2343 Utility is a Microsoft based free utility. It is available at Microsoft’s support Website. A user can download & run this tool for rectifying the error.

3. Eradicate the Lotus Notes entries in Win.ini file.
Before deleting the Lotus Notes entries create a backup of Win.ini file stored in Windows folder. Then run the Win.ini command from start. Track & remove these entries from there: nsf=c:\notes\Notes.exe ^.nsf, ns3=c:\notes\Notes.exe ^.ns3, nsg=c:\notes\Notes.exe ^.nsg
nsh=c:\notes\Notes.exe ^.nsh, ns2=c:\notes\Notes.exe ^.ns2, ntf=c:\notes\Notes.exe ^.ntf.
Eradicate the Win.ini file from Registry Editor. Delete these files from the Win.ini file from the LotusMail section: Application=Notes, Program=c:\notes\Notes.exe NoDialogs. Now save the changes and Exit the program.
Also remove the Lotus Notes Keys from the registry. For this Close all other programs and Run regedit. Search for the following keys in Registry Editor: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.nsf. Repeat this step for finding these keys

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.nsh
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.ntf
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.nsg
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.ns3
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.ns2
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.ndl

Navigate the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SOFTWARE\ Classes Key for deleting.nsf and subkeys. Repeat the step for deleting the .nsh, .ntf, .nsg, .ns3, .ns2, .ndl keys. Now close the Registry Editor.

4. Steps to Troubleshoot the Error 2343 if Lotus Notes is installed
Find the Lotus Notes entries in the Win.ini file from the backup copy. Run the Win.ini. command and find these extensions for deleting them:

nsf=c:\notes\Notes.exe ^.nsf
ns3=c:\notes\Notes.exe ^.ns3
nsg=c:\notes\Notes.exe ^.nsg
nsh=c:\notes\Notes.exe ^.nsh
ns2=c:\notes\Notes.exe ^.ns2
ntf=c:\notes\Notes.exe ^.ntf
Delete the Lotus Notes entry from Registry Editor.

If the Internal Error 2343 has not been rectified then you can still salvage the files with Kernel for Notes to Outlook (NSF to PST). It provides you access to all the corrupt Lotus Notes data like emails, contacts, calendar items, etc.

Optimal use of a migration software can mean the difference between sending a technician to each and every computer versus relaxing and watching a script do the whole migration automatically. Whenever you decide to leave your aboriginal email client and move into a new platform, a lot of initial emails, contacts, calendar entries will be there which you will still need anyway. Migration with the inbuilt tools never results in complete transfer of data. Therefore, migration tools are used but within the available plenty which one suits your environment remains an important question.

Taking example of migration from Lotus Notes to Microsoft Outlook, the most common data to be migrated is client side Lotus Notes archives (NSF files) into Outlook PST and server side Domino server data into Exchange server data. Along with the user accounts like Lotus Notes IDs and contacts, calendars, appointments also need to be successfully converted. The technical expertise required to migrate server-side data is very different from the technical expertise required to migrate client-side data. Therefore, you need to be more concerned about your Domino user data.

The only way to be certain if the software will meet your needs is to test it in your environment. Good NSF to PST converters will allow you to have a free trail before purchase. If you have to install the software for operation on each workstation, the difficulty of use goes up drastically. Client-side migration software should automatically configure itself for the workstation on which it is run to allow fully automated deployment.

After finding automated software which requires it to install only on the server, migrate a small mailbox to the new email system. If all the folders, folders with correct emails, attachments, images get migrated then you can rely upon the software for further use. Next migrate a very large mailbox and check if all the folders convert, even nested folders several levels down. If migrating to Outlook versions before Outlook 2003, look whether the software handles folders with more than 16,000 messages. Also move a user’s contacts/address books and check if everything works. Finally note if the software completes the migration without any incident or not. If all these positive traits are found then you are evaluating the right product.

NSF to PST allows you to check the product’s capabilities with a free evaluation version. Convert NSF to PST quickly and effectively. With this tool you can directly convert Domino user mailboxes to new account in Exchange Server or as .PST file. The converted data can be viewed in Text or RTF format. It supports version 8.5, 8.0, 7.0, 6.5, 6.0 and 5.0 of Lotus Notes and Lotus Domino Server. Along with, it supports MS Outlook 97 and above, and every version of MS Exchange Server.

Both Lotus Notes and MS Outlook are the two utilities of email messaging system. But, for seamless emailing tasks and simple operation, Outlook email application is preferred all over. These, days, many Lotus Notes users are tend to switch to Outlook due to the easy functionality and extensive features of the latter. To switch from one platform to another, one needs to import that email messaging system which further gives birth to Lotus Notes to Outlook conversion. There are some prominent reasons for such conversion which are:

Organizations want to reduce extra cost spending lavishly on maintenance

Organizations want to save time in understanding features of Lotus Notes, as Lotus Notes requires enough technical expertise to operate it.

Organizations want to have management of useless expenses

Apart from the organization’s point of view, you may personally feel the need of NSF to PST conversion. Suppose, you have switched to another company but wish to keep contacts with all the members of previous organization. If your previous company uses Lotus Notes and newer one work in Outlook then you need to convert NSF file to PST. Another possible reason may be that some users work from home. You will be into trouble if your office follows Lotus Notes and you personally have configured Outlook.

Though it is possible to manually convert NSF files into PST but, it’s highly beneficial to use third party conversion tools for such email system conversion. There are several third party software available in the market but, Lotus Notes to Outlook gives the best performance among them. It is an impeccable tool that efficiently converts NSF to PST files along with converting emails, contacts, journals, appointments, tasks, notes, attachments and images. It supports Unicode conversion while preserving the original formatting of the data.

Emails are the electronic voice of the day and perhaps serve everyone immeasurably. Emails clients are the mode of communication in any organization these days. Out of the large number of available clients, Lotus Notes and Microsoft Exchange both have proved out to be expedient service providers. From time to time, enterprises as well as individuals get into a situation where they need to migrate among email clients. There can be various reasons behind it and the change may be temporary or permanent.

For temporary or minimal requirements, coexistence is a better idea than migration. Both IBM and Microsoft have built in support to let users access another client simultaneously. Exchange comes with several separate tools to let you to coexist with Lotus Domino. They are the Microsoft Connector for Lotus Notes and Microsoft Exchange Calendar Connector. On the other hand, IBM has also has Domino Access for Microsoft Outlook (DAMO). The concept behind the DAMO solution is to offer existing Microsoft Exchange/Outlook users the ability to migrate all existing Exchange data to a Domino server, then to run either the Domino Access for Microsoft Outlook client (think of it as a “Virtual Outlook” client) or the Notes client over the new Domino database. Thus such services let you devoted towards one, still virtually use another.

If you are looking for a permanent solution, then probably migration is a better solution rather than maintaining both clients. Using both can be very expensive as well as tiresome, as you always have to shuffle among clients which are basically not at all compatible. Lotus Notes use .nsf file extension to store data whereas outlook uses .pst file. In order to migrate from Notes to Outlook, one needs to convert NSF to PST. This is a crucial and hectic task but needs one time effort. But no more, as proficient email migration software programs are available to carry out the entire task on their own. You just have to locate the files and everything, including Domino server mailboxes will also be migrated to Exchange. They effectively migrate emails, notes, contacts, drafts, calendar items etc from .nsf file to .pst file while maintaining data integration.

Lotus Notes to Outlook Conversion is such a product. Convert NSF to PST quickly and this tool even converts Domino user mailboxes to new account in Exchange Server or as .PST file. The converted data can be viewed in Text or RTF format. Download free trial version and check the capabilities but it limits you to convert only one NSF file and save first ten items of every folder existing in the .nsf file. It supports version 8.0, 7.0, and 6.0 of Lotus Notes and Lotus Domino Server. Along with, it supports MS Outlook 97 and above, and every version of MS Exchange Server.

Export NSF to Outlook PST File

Presence of various email clients has made people work on multiple email platforms simultaneously. To connect Lotus Notes and Outlook, Microsoft Exchange Connector is used which enables users to convert Lotus Notes mails into Outlook file format. Many people use this connector to view Notes email in Outlook. However, there are times when you cannot use the Microsoft Exchange Connector for Lotus Notes to send HTML-format messages between Lotus Notes and Microsoft Exchange Server.

Reason for this behavior

The Microsoft Exchange Connector for Lotus Notes behaves like this, as the Exchange Server does not support transporting HTML-format messages across the connector. The Exchange Connector for Lotus Notes supports Microsoft Rich Text Format (RTF) to Lotus Notes Composite Data (CD) Rich Text.

Resolution to this hindrance

It is easy to resolve this hindrance. You just need to follow below mentioned steps:

Upgrade the Exchange server to Microsoft Exchange Server 2003.

Install Exchange Server 2003 Service Pack 2 (SP2).

Upgrade the Exchange Connector for Lotus Notes to the latest Web Release.

You have another possibility to workaround this trouble. For sending HTML-format messages from nsf to pst, send mail by Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) instead of using the Exchange Connector for Lotus Notes. Here, you have to be aware that if you send all mails from nsf to pst by SMTP, you may lose some functionality, such as DOCLINK conversion. Few of the other items that may be affected are any RTF items, calendaring items, and forms. Hence, you have to be quite sure that you know the actual process to send mails through SMPT. Prior of sending using SMPT and sending mail research closely how end-users are using the system, and verify what functionality is needed. This will help you avoid the negative consequences of using SMPT mode.

The best approach to transfer emails from nsf to pst is to use a professional Export nsf to pst conversion tool. These tools are created keeping all the possible aspects of conversion from one email client to another. Although, there are many conversion tools available in the market but Kernel for Lotus Notes to Outlook Conversion is a unique export NSF to PST tool that assures complete and accurate conversion of emails and other items. It recreates folder structure of .NSF file into .PST file and makes it easy to access with MS Outlook email client. Using this conversion tool, you can experience instant accessibility of converted items.
